<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>i want to start a blog on interesting train, making your own treats, bomb-proofing horses and working with rider confidence building. is this something you would be willing to read or contribute too?</p>
<p>an example topic would be: how to desensitize your <a href="http://www.horsefactsguide.com/amazon" style="color:#0033FF;text-decoration:underline;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='Horse Facts Guide Amazon';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">horse</a> to new things<br />
i would love people to contribute their own quality tips and stories to this blog. would anyone here read it?<br />
http://onceuponaponytail.blogspot.com/<br />
check it out, i want more opinons!</p>
<p>would you like it if i featured some Y!A questions on here?<br />
<br />I had saved your question because I did not have time to read it when I found it.</p>
<p>I looked at the web site and I think it looks great. Informative stories/articles that I found interesting and I will be going back to finish the losing a <a href="http://www.horsefactsguide.com/amazon" style="color:#0033FF;text-decoration:underline;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='Horse Facts Guide Amazon';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">horse</a> one as I did not have time to finish it with the respect it deserved.</p>
<p>I also loved that you picked up the mustang question posted here a short time ago. I saw it at the time and was horrified and hope it was an attention seeking brat with too much time on their hands. But it is certainly a good conversation starter.</p>
<p>So in answer to your question yes I would read it.</p>
<p>Good luck and keep it up <img src='http://www.horsefactsguide.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>
<p>There are a few things that some people wish to do before they die.  For some they want to climb Mount Everest, some want to see the ancient pyramids, and some just want to learn to ride a <a href="http://www.horsefactsguide.com/amazon" style="color:#0033FF;text-decoration:underline;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='<a href="http://www.horsefactsguide.com" target=_self>Horse facts</a> Guide Amazon&#8217;;return true;&#8221; onmouseout=&#8221;self.status=&#8221;&#8221;>horse</a>.  Fortunately for me I was able to learn to ride a <a href="http://www.horsefactsguide.com/amazon" style="color:#0033FF;text-decoration:underline;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='Horse Facts Guide Amazon';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">horse</a> at a very young age and it&#8217;s something I have enjoyed my whole entire life.  If you wish to learn to ride a horse I&#8217;ll give you just a couple of things that you should learn to do right at the start.</p>
<p>One of the first things that you should do when you learn to ride a horse is to learn how to lead one.  That&#8217;s probably not what you had in mind but still, it&#8217;s kind of important.  You shouldn&#8217;t be standing at the end of the lead rope trying to pull your horse along and you also shouldn&#8217;t be standing at their shoulder letting them lead you along.  There&#8217;s no control in either of those methods.  The best way to lead a horse is to stand with your shoulder pretty close to their throatlatch and about a foot over to the side of them.  That way you have enough room between the two of you for comfort.  With one hand right below the lead snap and the other holding the rest of the lead line, you will step forward with the horse hopefully following.  If it doesn&#8217;t then you just simply push gently in the direction you want to go with the hand that has the snap.  That will give you the most control over the horse.</p>
<p>Now that you know how to lead a horse your horseback riding lessons will flow smoother.  When you learn to ride a horse you have to be in control and if you can lead one with control on the ground you have a better chance of being able to learn to ride a horse.  Riding a horse works best when you know that you&#8217;re in control.  If you think that you can&#8217;t ride a horse, you will never be able to learn proper horseback riding.  They will know that you&#8217;re scared and take total advantage of you.  That&#8217;s all there is to it.  If you get scared just take some deep breaths and tell yourself that you&#8217;re the boss.  Any time my mare and I have a &#8220;discussion&#8221; and she thinks that she&#8217;s the boss I calmly let her know that I&#8217;m the boss and that I&#8217;m always going to win.  And I always do.  You can&#8217;t get rough and be mean but you have to be firm.  If you start beating and thumping on a horse, odds are it&#8217;s gonna scared and then you might get scared.  Not a good thing.</p>
<p>You can learn to ride a horse by taking lessons but unless you are with a trainer that has a goal of teaching you something in particular, you might be able to get the same effects by watching a few videos or reading some horse training books.  And a lot of those books you can purchase online for a reasonable cost.  No sense making horse ownership any more expensive than it needs to be.  If you learn to ride a horse, you are learning a skill that has been around for hundreds of years and obviously is still important to this day because people still do it.  Mainly some will learn to ride a horse for pleasure, relaxation or just time by themselves.  What&#8217;s you&#8217;re reason?</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have two weanling mule colts and was wondering if there are any major differences in the way a person would teach them to lead and do other basic things compared to training horses.<br />
<br />yes and im sure mule will give you a more detailed answer but mules and donkeys are very unique. With horses you can convince them very quickly that what you are doing isworht there while. Mules on the other hand are very intelligent creatures. If you think you have patients for horses you need triple that for mules/ donkeys. Sicne mules intelligence is greater than horses they need to think about there options. I trained some mini donkeys to pull a cart and i once sat there for ten minutes waiting for this jennie to make up her mind that she wanted to go forward. After a little coaking and some food she moved forward and we never had a problem with walking forward since then.</p>
<p>You can not force them with whips and &quot;special devices&quot; you must be VERY patient and really try to look from there point of view on what options you could take. </p>
<p>They also don&#8217;t like change. For example if you start riding the mule in a say Circle Y western Trail Saddle and a egg butt snaffle don&#8217;t plan on changing tack without some discomfort. Once they find tack they like they will want to stick with it. I met a woman who bought a Mule who was ridden western and she rode english. When she switched saddles to english she got some bucks out of that guy.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I just moved to Mountain View and I&#8217;m looking for a trainer/barn to ride with. I&#8217;ve been riding for 15 years, so I&#8217;m looking for an advanced trainer. I don&#8217;t have a <a href="http://www.horsefactsguide.com/amazon" style="color:#0033FF;text-decoration:underline;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='Horse Facts Guide Amazon';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">horse</a> now but could lease and will probably get another one in the future. I&#8217;m mostly interested in a hunter/jumper trainer but I ride western also. Does anyone know of good barns in the area where I could take lessons?<br />
<br />Oh you&#8217;re sooooo lucky! I grew up on the pennisula&#8230; You&#8217;ve got a lot there to choose from, starting with Stanford Stables, Palo Alto. Willow Tree in Woodside. AND my friend boards her little pinto in Woodside and I can&#8217;t remember the stable&#8217;s name&#8230;Grrrrrrrr </p>
<p>E-mail me and I&#8217;ll give you my friend&#8217;s e-mail and you two can talk (She lives in Redwood City). I spent 2 mos at her mom&#8217;s last year after her dad died. Left my own horses in the care of somebody else (Boy did I miss them!) and within 2 days of me getting up there she plops me up on her pinto (He&#8217;s really cute.)! Talk about a busman&#8217;s holiday! ROFLOL</p>
<p>If I remember right one of the gal&#8217;s at the barn leases out horses there. They have a beautiful settng, a nice arena and a small turnout area with stalls and runs.</p>
<p>Hope that this helps you out.</p>
<p>Later:</p>
<p>My friend logged on and I asked her for help. This is what she suggested:</p>
<p>&quot; Have her go to Bay Equestrian and look for the barns and also pull up classified for boarding. Most barns are small, private barns. If she wants fancy arenas and facilities she will be paying a lot more and can go to one of the big barns. Don&#8217;t think Stanford takes outside boarders anymore. If so the rates are way up there, $1,000 a month or so hard to get space here, so I&#8217;d start looking asap.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s Bay Equestrian link. http://www.bayequest.com/</p>
<p>This is the best place to look for barns. Like I say, the best ones have waiting lists but if she wants training they will usually get her in.&quot;</p>
